Paddy Joe
Paddy Joe founded Drummindoo Stud with his wife Patsy in 1963. His family association with horses goes back generations.
Paddy Joe’s grandfather who lived in the small village of Aughagower, just outside Westport provided transport for the local priest by horse and sidecar in this vast parish. Paddy Joe has a keen interest in driving and provides a horse drawn carriage service for special events. The Henry Brothers (relatives of Paddy Joe) emigrated to Kenosha, Wisconsin in the early 1800’s and ran a very successful horse livery business there.
Paddy Joe’s career spans decades. Initially he stood stallions and exported horses and ponies internationally. In 1979 he developed a horse riding service at Drummindoo Stud. All along he has been judging at shows both at home and abroad. He is well known in the horse industry as a good judge with a keen eye for conformation and movement. His favourite breeds are the Connemara Pony and Irish Draught Horse and he has been actively involved in their development over the years. He has served on the Irish Horse Board and has been National Chairman of the Irish shows Association. He provides invaluable experience to ensure the smooth running of the centre.
